Voice of Truth
This is part of the song “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns
But the waves are calling out my name
And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I’ve tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. “Boy, you’ll never win!”
“You’ll never win!”
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
The voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth
Sometimes the chatter that surrounds us from our family, our friends, our co-workers and the world, although they often say they mean it “for your own good,” gets in the way of what the Voice of Truth is trying to tell us. In this day and age, it’s so hard to discern that Voice of Truth in between all the chatter but you can learn to let it guide you if you learn to find it and listen.
As a kid, I was known as a leader – the one who always knew the way or at least was willing to find it, whatever that took. I wasn’t necessarily popular, but I was well-known. And to a degree, respected. I didn’t let other people sway me – I was good at listening to that Voice of Truth within. It never failed me.
But as I grew up, I started second-guessing my role, second-guessing that Voice. And soon enough, I stopped hearing it. I began to let others control my thinking, control my life, control me. My life went downhill and all those things I had dreamed about as a child seemed so far away, like I would never, could never, achieve them.
I had lost my true self.
Today, I’m found.
Today, I have learned to ignore the chatter of those around me. I have come to conclusion that the only One who knows what’s best for me is that Voice of Truth.
This article is just the beginning of what’s possible and though I’ve condensed it down into an easy to read and follow dialogue, it certainly isn’t a complete course.
